Melaleuca is also the name of a type of plant that has an essential oil called Ti tree (aka tea tree). Some people misspell it as “melaluca†or “malalucaâ€. I have used tea tree oil products for many years on my horses as a topical treatment since it has great natural antibacterial and antifungal effects. Tea tree oil can be purchased from most any drug store or pet store for just a few dollars. One interesting fact is that the melaleuca plant is a valued plant in Australia and Hawaii, but is an invasive weed in some areas such as Florida where it is costing the state of Florida hundreds of thousands of dollars to try and remove.
